Firedance

Montesque

The paradox of fire. A beguiling entity - seductive, sensual and playful yet evolving instantly to a more dangerous, erratic and nonchalant mischief maker.

Firedance captures these unpredictable demeanour shifts fusing warm early analog synth pads with a playful 'samba-like' motif with edgy metallic keys. Evolving bass riffs and a vintage power chord finale also hint at early EDM imagery. We are always drawn to the flame, no matter the cost...…

Firedance is the first in Montesque's series of 'Elemental' themed tracks.

Its Like a Telephone Singing

Montesque

When writing ‘Its Like a Telephone Singing’ I imagined the song you hear when the day has almost ended and the night is about to begin. It starts in the chill ambient zone but then switches mood to have you thinking about what is to come......that 6pm or 7pm number. Maybe at a beach club or even bar when there is that intersection between day and night (what has been and what will be)

The track started as a funk composition built on a 3 chord sequence and electro bass then I stumbled upon a great Moog Lead patch from a download which took it into a kind of ambient softer space for the chorus, something like you might expect from AIR or Moby. From there I really wanted the song to evolve and change ending in a kind of uptempo 'coda' - something you don't see much of these days!

Like a Telephone Singing' fuses many musical genres - smooth funk to playful woodwind with an organ that fills the space with synthwave warmth. I didn't focus on genres, just wrote it to be an uplifting, original electronic track and that evolves over time to change energy levels, also surprising the listener and carrying them away in thought.

Darkstone

Montesque

What would your life’s curtain-call sound like?

It’s 5 to midnight, the end of the line and you are about to leave this world for good. You have scheduled a final onstage performance of everything you have seen, done, loved, lost and regretted before an audience of everyone you have ever known. What would they see? How would they react?

Darkstone is a synth-infused electronic requiem - find a quiet place, pour a drink, close your eyes and think about the celebration that is your life.

“Its a bit of a cliche, but the idea for Darkstone came to me in a dream - about a 1930’s ballroom where I was performing in front of a black tie boisterous crowd. This got me thinking about the concept of a life’s ‘curtain call’, a real bittersweet moment. Musically, it started very simply - a couple of notes using a mournful brass instrument and then evolved from there to embed electronic, classical and synthwave elements”
